A rough trip to Nabouvwalu

from Peceli
Bula sia. I am back in Babasiga land this morning and the weather is not very good with a lot of gusty wind and heavy rain yesterday and today. But fortunately the town of Labasa is -sort of -back to normal but you have to use an umbrella and rain coat.

The trip of the Spirit of Harmony from Natovi to Nabouwalu was fairly good till we reached close to Nabouwalu then the sea became angry and it become windy and with a strong rain. The four boys were a part of my team so we had good cooked lunch and drinks prepared for our trip. The road to Nabouwalu was bumpy and rough. I wish maybe one day they will have a tar-sealed road like from Labasa to Dreketi.
Today I will be in Wailevu for the funeral of an elderly relative.

I often went with my father from Labasa to Nabouwalu (staying overnight at the government guest house). There was no tarmac on the whole journey in those days. We used to take a break at a wonderful waterfall en-route. Another highlight was passing the hill with huge rocks that was exactly the shape of a teddy bear. It's nice to be reminded.

A rock like a teddy bear? How cute.
I usually go Savusavu to Labasa, that way. Actually I think it's blocked by a landslide at present. They are still having heavy rain in Labasa this morning. They really suffer with floods up in Labasa these days, as if there aren't enough difficulties in the sugar industry!

Spirit of Harmony is a new ship, isn't it?

Yes, Panda, I think so. At present some of the ferries are not going and certainly there are problems on the roads to Labasa because of landslides. Perhaps our family will have to go back to Suva by plane - which is much more expensive.
