Many people will be saying 'I told you so' when villagers allow gravel extraction in their rivers. Now the food sources have dried up. When there is a disturbance in the eco-system there is sure to be consequences. I'm sorry for the villagers who depend upon fish and food supplies in the river for their day to day living, but that is the result of someone leasing part of their land. In Macuata we were astonished one time to find that people were disturbing our beach property at Nukutatava and taking away sand by the truckload, and also gravel up on the hill and a member of our family told them off. It happens time and time again that land and resources are exploited and damaged. This time it's China Railway who apparently are fixing the road from Nabouwalu to Dreketi.
