My pictures from Bau Island Methodist Conference

from Peceli,
These are the first lot of photos printed this morning. I felt very privileged to visit Bau Island for the Conference. I have not been on Bau Island for many years. My lecturer, Dr Alan Tippett once lived there as a talatala and he always taught the students at the Vuli Talatala to respect history and anthropology. Bau Island is a place with much history including the coming of the lotu to Fiji and spreading throughout the islands.

Great pics. How many people live there full time these days?

Nzm,
Yes, doesn't it? Peceli didn't take pictures of the cooks though, busy cutting up meat, etc. Perhaps it's best not to. Protocol demanded that Bau Island looked marvellous, shiny bright and polished for the visitors.
Momo - well, there weren't any dogs or cats to be seen. Not even kids! I think the younger families all took off to visit Hibiscus Festival and it was school holidays. Actually many Bau people, Peceli said, have a home on Bau, but live elsewhere, so it is not a highly populated place.
