Weighty matters at the Conference

A reporter from the Fiji Sun writes: The Wainibuka Methodist division killed three cows and three pigs to feed the 800 Methodist Conference delegates lunch in Bau yesterday. Leading the 200 women from the division Rejieli Seruvakula said they started preparing the food from Sunday night...

Meanwhile a group of doctors from Fiji are attending an Obesity Conference in Geelong this week...

3 cows and 3 pigs to feed 800?

Must be filling up with dalo and cassava then!

That's about 1500 lbs of beef and maybe 500 lbs of pig meat. Plenty I'd say. I wonder what the doctors would say....

Yes nzm and panda - I thought you would see the irony in it. Hospitality is a splendid aspect of life in Fiji - caring for visitors and strangers.
But... keep it simple is my motto. Food can be tasty, nutritious and sufficient in small amounts I reckon.

And, Peceli sent an email this evening. Didn't join in with the meeting and feasting on Bau Island, but spent the day with the grandchildren and took them to see relatives in a village. It's school holidays in Fiji at present, so he's so lucky to be with these beaut kids who are nine and seven.
