Tagimoucia and serendipity

from Peceli
My friend the Tui Vuna from Taveuni is holidaying in Australia and came down to Geelong one day to help with the music in our dance presentation at Pako Festa. He went up to Sydney yesterday but we had a farewell party for him on Tuesday night in Melbourne. I was there, but Wendy has been unwell so didn't go. Anyway we were talking about the tagimoucia flower from Taveuni and the lake is part of land belonging to a clan from Vuna. Tui Vuna then gave me a gift for Wendy, a sulu with the special flower on it and also something about the International Date Line going through Taveuni. The people of Taveuni are close to me for various reasons, one being that many are related to my relatives in Vesi village, Mali Island.
Wendy said, 'This is serendipity.' Yes, we had been thinking a bit lately about the tagimoucia flower.

Hello Elisa,
Thank you and later today I will have a good look at your website, even though I don't understand Italian I can guess many words! The internet is an amazing place for people to share their thoughts and work in progress.

Beautiful sulu.

Yes, I was delighted with the gift. Tui Vuna is a lovely man, humble but sociable.
The spelling of the name of the flower - on the sulu it is tagimoucia but there are variations it seems.

Bula si'a Tui,
Are you the Tui from Queensland? Who posts on some blogs? Peceli is busy renovating the garage so I've got the computer for now. Tui Vuda was here not long before we posted this piece about the Taveuni flower.

Bula,
The record needs to be set straight:
The REAL TUI VUNA, the late Ratu Mika Vosota, passed away two years ago.
Joe Magnus is his nephew.
Shame on these "Wanna-Be-Ratus"

Bula vinaka Kemuni

Many thanks for commenting to the Babasiga blog regarding the title Tui vuna or Na Sau kei vuna.

I am quite happy to share some stories with you but not in the Babasiga Blog regarding the gentleman concerned. If you are in Melbourne, come to Geelong.

How sad it is wen we are lacking in knowledge of the real Tui Vuna. Maybe it would be appropriate to go back to the family of the original KAWA of the Tui Vunas and that is the "WAI NI YAKU" Clan. They have real stories to tell on how their ancestors were betrayed and robbed of their title. As we speak this clan in the process of claiming their rightful title back and its massive land mass. Hope that shared some light into the untold stories..happy reading.

Back in 1988 at the time of the installation of Ratu Penaia (which we attended) there was a video put out telling one of the stories of the chiefs of Taveuni - one point of view. It seems that in Fiji it sometimes happened that a stranger was given the honour instead of local people. Hocart wrote something about that. A fine-looking stranger to the shores marries a local princess and he becomes the new leader. There are always injustices happening though. The present day is no esception.

Hello,

I'm a journalist based in New York and I am heading to Fiji for some assignments. I'm interested to do a story on the Tagimoucia Flower. I gather that you have seen this flower and I wanted to know about your experience. I could easily call you on skype for a quick chat. Also, my email is serenamsolomon@gmail.com and my cell is +1 9177474427. Thanks.
