I was posting a normal sized colour picture after using Epson scan and then Picasa to lighten, and I got rainbow like stripes over it. I scanned a B and W pic and it was okay, then a colour pic from a newspaper and that was okay. What could be the problem? I need to clean the scnaner perhaps? Short of ink? Mana?
That is called moire. If you look closely at the print you are scanning you can see that the image is made up of tiny coloured dots printed in a specific pattern. Usually scanning software has a filter to descreen or remove moire, which should help to reduce the rainbow effect.
ReplyDeleteThank you, I'll try and solve it. It seems to be related to very glossy photos and one that was laminated.

yes Wendy - glossy surfaces and lamination will cause the moire effect when scanning.
ReplyDeletetry rotating the image 90deg on the scanner and rescanning it - it may reduce the effect.
thanks nzm. I'll try that. We learn something new every day!
