from Peceli
I am in Labasa town and the weather is fairly good. This morning I woke up at 4 am with the sound of a cane truck when the driver came to pick the boys to go and load the cane from Teca's cane farm next door. As I was trying to put my thoughts together I was disturbed by the singing of the Toatagane roosters and every 15 seconds they were crying ko ko yoo continually till daybreak. The houses in Vatuadova look very good with the repairs and new paint. I took some photos and here are two of them.
Nice pictures. Roosters - oh, I've complained enough about my experience with roosters and lack of sleep!
ReplyDeleteCane harvesting is such hard work. On Maui it is now done with machines. The generations of Chinese, Japanese, Filipinos, and Portuguese who performed that work over the years in Hawaii. It makes me feel so spoiled! - and sad. The missionary families that owned the mills got rich, while others toiled.
hey i can tell the second picture was taken at the back of the st mary's hostel in Labasa!
ReplyDeletePanda,
ReplyDeleteso Michener's book 'Hawaii' was almost true about the missionaries getting rich there?
Anonymous,
Peceli didn't explain but it looks like St Mary's hostel which the Labasa Council at one stage condemned but I guess renovations are going ahead. Who are the guys in the photo? I heard they want to host some of the Methodist Conference delegates there but now with school holidays moved, it's mucked up. If Peceli gets near an internet cafe, maybe he will explain.

Who's the 'Pani wala'?
ReplyDeleteHa ha. I bet it's not Peceli nor his brother Dakai.

Is that Tata Dakai in maroon shirt? Oh,dear! He better cut down on those sugars and 'panikeke waicala'...Meci.
ReplyDeleteBula sia Alumeci,
ReplyDeleteActually he's fit, not fat like many older men, especially talatalas. He is enjoying life back in Labasa after so many years in Lautoka in that tiny little flat. Luckily Peceli is fit too. Oh, those awful pancakes without milk and eggs. Peceli makes them sometimes but I like 'my' pancakes.

This won't actually have success, I think so.
