By saying that it is typical implies that girls/women were being treated as less important which is not the case in the Tongan culture. Before using such a phrase, please try and understand some basic Tongan values. Whether it be boys or girls, in Tonga when you are assigned to do something, we take it seriously and we do not give up until the job is done. The Tongan term for it is "fatongia" (duty).Regardless of the weather, difficulty, etc we are taught to do the job and do it well. This type of commitment has taught our people to be tough, hardworking, resilient, loyal, etc. This value has helped many of our people survive wherever they go.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
